Aflex Technology is proud to be supporting Aquatics & Recreation Victoria Water Safety Week 2015.
Marking the beginning of the summer season, Water Safety Week runs until 6 December to encourage Victorians to get out and enjoy water recreational activities and promote water safety. Numerous events and education activities are happening throughout Victoria during the week, and the team at Aflex are proud to be able to sponsor a prize in support of water safety and Aquatics & Recreation Victoria.
Water Safety Week is part of the Play it Safe by the Water campaign, which has been running since 1998 to promote water activities and water safety.
Life Saving Victoria Manager Media and Communications Jennifer Roberts says water activities such as swimming, surfing, boating and fishing can be great fun for the family.
“However it is important to be safe around water by looking out for family and friends. Our key messages to Victorians are to play it safe by the water, and to never swim alone. Children need to be actively supervised at all time. Children under five should always be within arm’s reach.
If you are heading to the beach, always swim at a beach patrolled by lifesavers, and always swim between the red and yellow flags.
Ms Roberts said that following heavy floods and storms this year, it is particularly important to be aware of changed conditions in local inland waterways, such as rivers and lakes.
“Many rivers are still much higher than they have been in previous years. They may have different currents and underwater debris caused by floods. It is essential that you always look before you leap, and check conditions before entering the water."
The promotion of key water safety messages in vital in regional Victoria, to assist in working towards Life Saving Victoria’s goal of zero drownings.
